Recipes (great for Sabbats and Esbats)

Black Moons

Cookie part:

1/2 c. shortening 2 c. flour

1 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

1 c. milk 1/2 tsp. salt

1 egg 1/2 c. dark cocoa

1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. add dry ingredients. Drop by teaspoons on ungreased sheet. Bake at 300 degrees for 7-10 min.


1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. marshmallow

1 c. confectioners sugar 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Mix together with electric beater and place generous amount between 2 cookies.

Almond Crescents

1 c. soft shortening(half butter)

2/3 c. blanched, ground almonds

1/3 c. sugar 1 2/3 c. flour

1/4 tsp. salt

1 tsp. cinnamon for coating

Mix first three ingredients thoroughly, then work in last two ingredients. Chill dough at least one hour. Break a piece off. Roll with hands pencil-thick in 2 1/2 inch lengths. Form into crescents. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in 325 degree oven 14-16 min., until set, not brown. Cool on pan. While slightly warm, carefully dip in one cup confectioners sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon, mixed. Makes about 5 dozen.

Dirt Cake

1 (20 oz) pkg. Oreo cookies(ground up)

1/2 c. powered sugar 3 1/2 c. milk

1/2 c. butter, softened 1(8 oz)cream cheese(soft)

1 (12 oz) Cool Whip

2 small pkg. instant vanilla pudding

Mix together butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar. Mix milk and vanilla pudding in seperate bowl. Fold in Cool Whip, then add both mixtures together. In bowl or sand pail, layer mixture, cookies, mixture, cookies, etc. Half way through place some gummie worms with a couple on top.

Impossible Pumpkin Pie

1 (16 oz) can pumpkin 2 eggs

1 can evaporated milk 1/2 c. Bisquick

2 tbsp. softened butter 2 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Blend all ingredients together. Bake in greased pie plate 50-55 min. at 350 degrees. Do not overbake.

Gift of the Magi Bread

1/2 c. margarine 1 c. sugar

3 medium mashed bananas 2 eggs

1(11 oz)can mandarin oranges 1 tsp. vanilla

1(6 oz) pkg chocolate chips 2 c. flour

1 c. shredded coconut 1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 c. chopped cherries 2/3 c. sliced almonds

confectioners sugar 1/2 c. chopped figs

Cream butter with sugar. Add eggs and vanilla- beat until fluffy. Sift flour with baking soda. Add alternately with mashed bananas. Stir in oranges, chocolate pieces, coconut, 1/2 cup sliced almonds, cherries, figs. Pour into 2 greases loaf pans. Sprinkle remaining almonds over top. Bake 1 to 1 1/4 hours at 350 degrees. When cool, sieve confectioners sugar over the top.

Blueberry Buckle

1 1/3 c. bisquick 1 egg

3/4 c. sugar 3/4 c. milk

3 tbsp soft shortening 1 tsp vanilla

1 pint blueberries

Mix the above and pour into a square pyrex baking dish(buttered) and lined with wax paper. On top on unbaked mixture. Place 1 pint washed blueberries crumbs made of:

1 c. bisquick 3 tbsp shortening

1/2 c. sugar

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 min.
